Summary

The Williams women don’t just keep secrets…

They bury them。

Just days before her eightieth birthday, Pearl Williams has the gall to up and die on everyone。 Now her granddaughters must make plans for a proper send-off…all while their own lives unravel a little more each day。

Tara, the pastor’s wife, makes a series of decisions that could scatter his flock。 Then there’s June, who would do anything to have a baby of her own, even if her husband won’t。 Clementine, the youngest, is entangled in an affair with her professor, desperate to ignore who he really is。 Finally, there’s Stephanie, the sister-in-law—an outsider who knows all the family dirt。

But Gran won’t be the only one they’ll put in a grave this weekend…because now someone has gone missing in the dark Appalachian woods。

And if Gran has taught them anything, it’s how to get rid of a good-for-nothin’ man…

Could not get into this book 🥱

This book was difficult for me to get into。 There were several characters and different story lines that went back and forth。 Finally about 70 pages in, it started to make more sense and sucked me in。 It was a good read that kept me interested。

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing。The four Williams siblings were raised by their Gran after their parents died when they were young。 When Gran dies, they’re brought together again to her house for the funeral。 But June, Tara, and Clementine, along with their sister-in-law Stephanie, find themselves in a different kind of situation - a man has gone missing, and the town Sheriff thinks the Williams sisters are to blame based on their history。 The story r I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing。The four Williams siblings were raised by their Gran after their parents died when they were young。 When Gran dies, they’re brought together again to her house for the funeral。 But June, Tara, and Clementine, along with their sister-in-law Stephanie, find themselves in a different kind of situation - a man has gone missing, and the town Sheriff thinks the Williams sisters are to blame based on their history。 The story rotates through the POVs of the four women, with each of their lives unraveling in some way。 I found all of them pretty unlikeable, except maybe Clementine since she seemed like she was more of a victim in her situation, whereas the other siblings were responsible for their own problems。 But that was part of the point - the Williams women have always done what they felt necessary, even if it wasn’t exactly legal。I did like how the story unfolded, with Stephanie in current POV talking to the Sheriff, and then going back to the events of the last few days with the sisters’ POVs。 The twist was good, and I liked how the ending came together, even if some things were still left unresolved。 。。。more

Loved it! The scandals, family bonds, and the family’s kept secrets。 Had me wondering who was going to be murdered the majority of the book。 She did wonderful making you think things were going one way and then head another on multiple different situations。 Along with some bomb dropping info into some family stories! Highly recommend if you like to be kept guessing throughout a book。

Such a fun read (especially when a missing man and so many twists and turns!) even with a lot of deep topics。 I laughed out loud multiple times and really enjoyed the humor。Trigger warning that there is miscarriage and stillbirth。 The author handled it with such care, but wanted to share so that you can be prepared。

I may have missed the pub date celebrations for this one last week, but I am glad I didn’t miss this one。 It has a dark, southern drama feel, with all the family secrets, messy lives, and oh, a body to bury! I loved the small-town setting, the strong theme of sisterhood; and of course, the taste of revenge makes it all the better。 Thank you @Kristenbirdwrites for a gifted book。

Family issues - check, Multiple POV - check。 Murder - check。 I loved this book - it had all the delicious things I like in a story - see my checks。 The story begins with Murder - you know someone is dead, you know where they are buried and you know whom might be involved。 The story winds its way along multiple POV from the main characters and while the main story is along a linear timeline, you do get glimpses into each of the main characters life and how they wound up in a singular moment with Family issues - check, Multiple POV - check。 Murder - check。 I loved this book - it had all the delicious things I like in a story - see my checks。 The story begins with Murder - you know someone is dead, you know where they are buried and you know whom might be involved。 The story winds its way along multiple POV from the main characters and while the main story is along a linear timeline, you do get glimpses into each of the main characters life and how they wound up in a singular moment with a dead body。 This was a very fast read for me because the writing made me invested in each of the characters and the anticipation of finding out the who, what, why of the main storyline。 。。。more

I absolutely loved reading every minute of this! The way everything ties together with so much twist & secrecy。 It truly encapsulizes "Blood is thicker than water"。 I couldn't stop reading。 Every chapter left me wanting more。 I've never been to Alabama but felt that I was transported there throughout the writing of the book。 Kristen Bird has done such an amazing job with each of her characters。 I especially loved Tara's。 As the oldest sister, I definitely have had my fair share of having to defy I absolutely loved reading every minute of this! Or are you just expediting karma? As Gran said "God helps those who help themselves" I was very pleased with the ending。 Gran would be proud。 & would definitely like to have some of Gran's tea along with more tea on the family 。。。more

I Love it When You Lie by Kristen Bird is a Southern mystery where a family will do anything to protect each other。 I loved how complicated these women were。 They each had their own issues and getting to see their inner thoughts as they dealt with them was fascinating。 There was no black and white here, rather many instances of gray。 I enjoyed the writing and how humor was interspersed throughout。 I wouldn’t call this a mystery, as much as women’s fiction。

Laura Whiting

Loved this book! I was captivated throughout the entire book。 Definitely a page turner! The story wasn’t overly suspenseful, but highly entertaining。 I loved each character and seeing the story unfold from their unique points of view。

Another fun read。 Watch out for those Williams girls! They represent generations of southern women cleaning up the mess。 Tara is stealing from the offering plate; June wants a baby, and she's going to get one whatever it takes; Clementine needs a wake-up call where her Professor boyfriend is concerned。 They've all gathered for the funeral of their matriarch。 But Gran isn't the only one being buried this weekend。 Another fun read。 Watch out for those Williams girls! The premise of this was really intriguing but I feel like the synopsis makes it sound more like a thriller than a family drama/suspense。 I enjoyed the southern setting and always love a good morally grey character。 June’s entire story seemed way too unrealistic and distracted me from the rest of what was happening。 I just kept thinking of how that would never go down that way。 I liked the multiple POV formatting and how we learned what happened in a nonlinear order。 Sometimes I was a bit confuse The premise of this was really intriguing but I feel like the synopsis makes it sound more like a thriller than a family drama/suspense。 I enjoyed the southern setting and always love a good morally grey character。 June’s entire story seemed way too unrealistic and distracted me from the rest of what was happening。 I just kept thinking of how that would never go down that way。 I liked the multiple POV formatting and how we learned what happened in a nonlinear order。 Sometimes I was a bit confused to the timeline but it wasn’t too difficult to decipher。 This was entertaining but not surprising。 The ending was a little to open ended and left me wanting a more concrete answer。 。。。more

3/5 stars! The cover of this thriller was really pretty and the premise was intense, so I was excited to read it。 This is a women's thriller and was interesting to get through。 Overall, it was enjoyable but it didn't live up to my expectations after reading the premise。 It just felt like there were too many "villains" in this book。 It messed with the pacing and kept me from truly engaging or rooting for any character。 It was very drama heavy, which didn't really match how it was advertised。I rec 3/5 stars! I primarily read romance books but occasionally venture into other genres。 The blurb and cover are what caught my eye first, so I decided to give this one a shot。 I enjoy a good mystery/suspense book, and this one really delivered。 What I liked most about this story is how the author wrote the characters' voices。 Each woman’s voice was very well established, and as they were all very different, I have to give Kristen Bird huge props for such a talent for doing this so well。 While it took a littl I primarily read romance books but occasionally venture into other genres。 The blurb and cover are what caught my eye first, so I decided to give this one a shot。 I enjoy a good mystery/suspense book, and this one really delivered。 What I liked most about this story is how the author wrote the characters' voices。 Each woman’s voice was very well established, and as they were all very different, I have to give Kristen Bird huge props for such a talent for doing this so well。 While it took a little while to warm up to most of the characters, the suspense/mystery gripped me from page one and had me not wanting to put the book down。 Some of the generalizations regarding small southern towns and their views rankled a bit。 But all in all, I recommend this book if you enjoy suspense books that delve into a bit of women’s fiction where the character relationships are concerned。 。。。more

What we do know is that once scorned, the Williams sister’s will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried。Filled with twists and turns I didn’t see coming, I was thoroughlyimmersed in this story and invested in the women’s storylines。 This book is next to impossible to put down because the reader must keep reading until the final ending twist that will leave you flabbergasted!
